RELEASE | 2. English

PSYGAI (pronounced “sigh-guy”) formed in 2001, with the aim of creating aggressive and contemplative rock, focused on visuals and performance. The band became known for pioneering, in Brazil, the use of the Japanese Visual Kei movement as one of its references. In 2003 and 2004 they released their first singles, entitled winterDreams and MaDamn. On hiatus since 2006, the band now makes their return with a new EP, more authentic and conceptual. Making use of lyrics not only in Japanese but also English and Portuguese, they intend to overcome diverse cultural boundaries and create a truly global piece, presentable and understandable to distinct audiences in different countries.

THE BAND is formed by the coming together of five artists with dissonant experiences, uniting to explore all their creative potency. Z (voice) has majored in Japanese language, with experience living in Japan; TORU (guitar and others) is a writer and holds a masters degree in Philosophy; Jon (lead guitar) is a musical producer; etorigan (bass and programming) is an artist and designer; J.U.N. (drums) is a draftsman and illustrator.

THE CONCEPT of the album brings a diverse proposal. Rooted in rock, it is filled with spontaneous bursts of agressivity, but also strong and reflexive melodies. A paradoxical dialog; the extremely human protest/outburst of which the lyrics so carefully speak.

THE AESTHETIC behind this set is inspired by fashion and fine art, but also contains ethnic influences from the Middle East. Shiva is one of the gods of the Hindu trinity, responsible not only for destruction, but also the transformation of the world. This is why his mandala (Shiva Yantra) follows the name “SAIGAI” (災害, calamity in Japanese).

THE NEW EP (and single) is digital and will be made available for purchase in two versions through websites such as Bandcamp. Each mp3 will be offered adjusted to the iTunes tag standards, and containing the original lyrics to the track.
